Reflection #1

This week I learned the very basics of the guitar - tuning my guitar, learning which string is which, and holding the guitar in the proper position (how the guitar should be in relation to my body as well as the proper way to apply fingers to the frets and strings). What I did this week is crucial to my future progress: I cannot play the guitar if I do not have a solid base of knowledge. Without knowing which string is which (low E, A, D, G, B, high E) I will not be able to understand instructional videos nor chord charts. I will use the skills learned this week throughout the rest of the project, how will I play the guitar without knowing any basics?

At first, playing the guitar really hurt my fingers, A LOT! When playing the guitar, enough pressure has to be on the strings in order to produce an adequate note. This means that my fingers are going to need to toughen up as I play more and more, which they will. As long as I continue to practice, the pain will go away and my muscle memory will increase, making it easier to play from memory. I believe I succeeded in learning guitar basics, although I will drill myself in them until they become second nature. So, what's next for me? Basic chords and maybe, if I'm lucky and have enough time, a simple song. I can't wait to see my time and effort pay off!
     Until next week,
       C.I.
