November 8, 2014
This week on November 8, 2014, began my twenty percent time session at home by reviewing the words that I previously learned on October 31st. Immediately after I reviewed that set of words, I began to learn the following: “cereal,” “water,” “cookie,” “hungry,” “wish,” the two versions of the word “shirt,” “volunteer,” “apply,” the expression “pick me,” “candidate,” “pants,” “underwear,” “socks,” “shoes,” coat,” “bra,” “bikini,” “wash,” “hurt,” and “pain”. Without a doubt, my favorite word to learn was “cookie” because cookies are yummy. I find that learning these words are important because many of them can be used everyday. For example, words like “pants,” “socks,” and “shoes” can be used everyday when talking about your wardrobe/attire. Also, the words “hurt” and “pain” can be used to indicate a wound that one may obtain while going about their day. This week I saw a new pattern while I was learning a few words. The words “shirt,” “volunteer,” “apply,” the expression “pick me,” and “candidate” have the same sign. Not only do those words have the same sign, but so do “bra” and “bikini”. This week I also saw the usual patterns- memorizing and the alphabet being a big part of the words in ASL. I believe that this week I did very well in learning the above-mentioned words. Next, I will continue to learn more basic words in ASL in order to expand my vocabulary.
Are you learning these words in isolation, or are you beginning to string them together to form sentences?
ReplyDeleteI am simply learning these words in isolation for the time being. I hope that soon, depending on my progress, I will begin to learn actual phrases/sentences.
