Reflection V + VI

This week I shall explore the glories of the mother board and hard drive. The Hard drive is a simple thing, compared to the rest of a computers components. It simply stores data in rapidly rotating disks, called platters, using a head placed on an actuator to write and read magnetic pulses. A marvel of engineering, hard drives retain their information, even without power, since the polarity of the disks will not change, unless interfered with. When buying a hard drive, there are a few factors to consider. A major one is the amount of space. Most hard drives are over twenty dollars, and the price increases in correlation to space. Most 1 Terabyte hard drives are between fifty and sixty dollars, depending on the read/write speed. The read/write speed determines how fast the computer can access data, and how fast it can store it.It is determined by who fast the platters spin, and is measured in rotations per minute. More expensive hard drives are around the 8000 rpm mark, while less expensive ones are around the 5500 rpm mark.
The motherboard is another core component of a computer. Basically, it is a PCB (printed circuit board), that ties all the core components of a computer together. It contains a small amount of ROM to hold the BIOS (Basic Input Output System), to setup, and tweak the most basic settings of a computer. It is important to choose a motherboard with a CPU socket that will house your CPU, else it will not work. Also, be sure to choose a motherboard with various forms of out put, to allow flexibility when setting up a computer.
Sorry for the wall of text.
