During the past few weeks, I have been very on and off. I always try to do the long runs and I usually make it most of the way. I few times a week, I go with my friend Shannon to the track in Warinanco.
While there we work on shorter runs in short bursts. This has helped my body to recover and has also improved my speed and stamina. Over this four week span, I have run about 115 miles out of 136 which I believe is pretty good.

This week I didn't run on Tuesday because i had shin splints. I'm not sure if you know but shin splints feel like a small fracture in your shins and the pain is crazy. So I rested for a few days and I started my routine again on Wednesday. Tomorrow I have to run 15 miles which is the farthest I have ever run in one outing. I'm afraid that the shin splints will come back and prevent me from finishing my run.

Reflection #2

Week        Mon          Tues      Wed      Thurs   Friday        Sat          Sun    Total Miles Run
   8    XT: 0-60 min7-8 miles3-4 miles6-7 miles  Rest  13-14 miles3-4 miles      32-37 miles

This week was a struggle because of the weather and because of the activities that I had going on. The snow that was on the ground during the week prevented me from running at all because my shoes don't have deep ridges to grip the snow. On Saturday, I ran most of the half marathon but I wasn't able to finish because I got really tired. I realize that I wasted some valuable time and I am hoping that next week I will be able to run everyday. I did a little bit of research on breathing techniques and other problems that I face such as sore joints.

Reflection #1

Since this is my 7th week of my marathon training, the lengths of the runs that I go on are hardcore. Just to make it clear, the chart above is the training that I have done and will do for the rest of the week. The XT in Monday stands for cross-training and that includes small exercises like jumping rope, push-ups, sit-ups, etc. This week my cross training was playing basketball. One thing that happened this week to help me was my gym teacher, Mr. Brooks, gave me a watch that measures distance. It is helpful but it only tells distance in kilometers so I had to convert miles to km on my computer first to know how far to run. A problem that I faced this week and basically throughout my time training was the weather. I usually run after I have done all of my homework so when I go outside, it is usually dark and cold.

20% Proposal

My 20 Time Project is going to be my attempt at running a marathon
My final product/goal/accomplishment will be completing a 26.2 mile marathon.

What do I need to know about my topic to be successful?
Breathing techniques, meal planning, and time management

What will be easy about this project?
Finding a place to run will be easy because I live near a park that is about 2 miles around.

What will be difficult about this project?
Dealing with the weather, time management, motivation, and stamina will all be problems.

Will most of this project be in class or outside of class?
The project will be outside.

If outside, what will I do during the class 20 Time?
Practice breathing techniques and reading about how other marathon runners dealt with problems that they faced.

Reflection 12

I during my fitness class I did a lot of legs exercises using a high tension rubber band. I also did jump exercised with a few wall squats in between. I have also been training for a marathon lately and the running is helping my legs gain strength and propulsion.

Reflection #11

This week i worked on my legs in fitness and I'm going to measure my highest jump next week to see how close I am to my goal. I mostly jump rope and I stretch all of the time. This week is going to be the most productive week of the project for me.

Reflection 9

This marking period, I have fitness and I have been working on my legs. I did lunging squats, leg extensions, and I did a lot of plyometrics. For about 5 minutes per workout, I jump rope to increase my heart rate for the rest of my workout and as a way to cool down afterward. I had to sit out of fitness for the passed two classes because I hurt my ankle during one of my exercises. It feels better now and I plan on starting my routine over again. I am getting really close to my goal because now I can touch the rim of the hoop, whereas I could only grab the top of the net before I started training.

20% Time Proposal

My twenty percent project is to achieve the goal of dunking a basketball on a ten foot rim. This has been a goal of mine since I was a young boy with a Fischer-Price hoop and a mini Scooby-Doo ball.

My final goal is to dunk whenever I feel like it.

I would need to research ways to improve jumping height and explosiveness.

The only thing I need to know about my goal is how fast that I can achieve it and how to speed up the process.

The easy part of the project is finding a time and place to workout and to test my abilities because the school has so many different fitness centers.

The hard part is going to be pushing my limits to gain the inches to actually get a ball over and into the basketball.

This will be 100% outside of the class. Discuss with my partner our plans for the week and how we can get better.
